Dear Parents and Carers
I write to inform you of some changes we are making at The St Lawrence Academy from next half term.
Adjustments to the School Day
At the start of the academic year we experimented with our lunch time arrangements meaning that all
students in Years 7 – 11 had lunch at the same time. However as the weather became wetter it became
clear that the Atrium area of the school was not big enough to accommodate over 800 young people
comfortably. Therefore we have decided to return to split lunches. This has meant that we have made
some slight adjustments to the timing of the end of the academy day. The new timing are as follows:
Monday 8.15 am – 3.35 pm
Tuesday 8.15 am – 2.35 pm
Wednesday 8.15 am – 2.35 pm
Thursday 8.15 am – 2.35 pm
Friday 8.15am – 1.15 pm (no change)
Prohibited Items
Please note that vapes are one of the prohibited items listed on the academy’s behaviour policy. It is
illegal to sell vapes to anyone under the age of 18. Where the academy has strong evidence that vapes
are being sold to young people we will refer this to the police. Since vapes are on the academy’s
prohibited items list we will confiscate these from anyone who brings these onto the academy site.
Confiscated prohibited items will not be returned to students and will be disposed of by academy staff.
Student absence
If your child is going to be absent from school please notify the academy by 8am on each morning of the
absence. This will avoid academy staff having to contact you during the course of the morning.
Change to Inset Day
Just a reminder that the Inset Day that was calendared for 25th November 2024 has been moved to Friday
27th June 2025. The academy will be open to all students on 25th November 2024.
I hope your children have a good half term break and I look forward to welcoming them back to the
academy on Monday 28th October for a prompt start at 8.15am.
