The nurturing approach to learning makes the most impact when it’s not just an intervention, but reaches everyone in a setting. It’s an evidence-based approach to improve behaviour and attendance, and wellbeing in your school, leading to better attainment and reduced exclusions.
The nurturing approach considers how a child’s social environment affects their emotional wellbeing, their social skills, and how ready they are to engage at school and in the wider community.
We aim to build nurture into our school’s culture and everyday work, through our National Nurturing Schools Programme. The Academy are currently working towards the National Nurturing School Award.
What is nurture?
The concept of nurture highlights the importance of social environments – who you’re with and not who you’re born to – and its significant influence on social emotional skills, wellbeing and behaviour. The nurturing approach to education offers a range of opportunities for children and young people to engage with missing early nurturing experiences, giving them the social and emotional skills to do well at school and with peers, and develop their resilience and capacity to deal more confidently with issues they may face.
As a Nurture UK school we aim to provide support for students in line with The Six Principles of Nurture.

Our Approach includes the graduates approach of Nurture. This includes whole school awareness of the student’s development and SEMH needs through Boxall profiles, making reasonable adjustments as needed and offering Interventions through our pastoral team.
