A welcome message from Mrs West- Deputy Headteacher for SEND

I have worked at the predecessor school and the Academy since January 2007. I feel very passionate about supporting and treasuring our students, our families and our community. During my time at the academy I have held many roles: a teacher of Mathematics, the SENDCo, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children, the Lead for Inclusion and the Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion and Achievement.  My current role as Deputy Headteacher now focuses on our SEND strategy and developing our internal Alternative Provision. I am committed to ensuring that the academy is a safe, welcoming place that meets the needs of all so that our vision of treasuring everyone and transforming communities is a reality.

A welcome message from Mr Nuttall- SEND Lead

I am very excited to be the SEND Lead here at The St Lawrence Academy; an academy where inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. I have worked within education in different roles such as Lead Teacher, SEMH Teacher Assistant SENCO/ELSA and teaching assistant. I have worked across mainstream, SEMH and schools, as well as within further education and apprenticeships.

This experience has allowed me to bring a diverse breath of SEND experience with me to The St Lawrence Academy.

My role as SEND Lead encompasses co-ordinating the special needs provision ensuring our learners with additional needs are able to access the curriculum and are well supported. As well as this I support the DSL to ensure staff and students are safe.

A welcome message from Mrs Nusrat Choudhry- Assistant SENCO and Safeguarding Officer.

I have worked at The St Lawrence Academy for 12 years teaching Religious Education, currently I hold the role Assistant SENCO and Safeguarding Officer at the academy. I have been fortunate to have been able to develop and experience a variety of roles and in the past I have held the roles of Achievement Team Leader and House Leader.

As part of my current role I work with the SEND team on developing our SEND support for our students and families to ensure they are getting the best outcomes and service from us to support their personal development, educational progress and future aspirations.

I also lead on English as Additional Language (EAL) supporting students from our diverse community enabling them to make progress and achieve.

I am the Inclusion Manager at the Academy. This role involves ensuring our Behaviour Policy is followed fairly. It is important that students know the rules so that you can be Ready to Learn, Safe and treated with respect.

Myself and my team work hard to ensure that students feel supported and we want to help and support you.

You will see me in the corridors supporting students, so please ask if you are worried about anything or unsure where your class is.

My interests involve running and fitness along with spending time with my family (which includes my 2 sausage dogs). I would also say that my interests are helping people as I want to make a difference if I can.

Learning Teaching Assistants (LTA)

Our Learning and Teaching Assistants (LTA) support students in lessons. They will sometimes work with students one to one or maybe in small groups as well as within the classrooms. They are there to support our students when they are struggling or just want a little bit of encouragement and guidance in their lessons.
