I hope everybody’s enjoyed the break and managed to spend some quality time together.

We have returned to colder temperatures and darker nights. Sometimes, that change in the season brings about a change in attitude.

I hate the cold weather, but it is about getting up every day, attacking it and saying: “It is going to be a good day”.

Draw on your resilience, stay positive and look ahead to achieving those goals, aspirations, and dreams.

We have a great half term ahead with a busy diary.

Thursday and Friday COVID vaccinations will be available for those students who have opted to have one. They have been waiting patiently.

Next Monday, our Year 11’s start their exams and I wish them well.

I have been speaking to many of them and have been impressed with their attitude. They are in a good place and in a positive frame of mind, ready for the exam cycle.

I will highlight this further in the coming weeks but Monday, 6th December, is a must date on the diary for our Year 11’s.

It is when we host, from 4.30pm, what I term our “evening of ingredients”.

They will be invited, with their parents / guardians, to pick up their results.

Once they have opened their envelope and taken their achievements on board, they have an opportunity to walk around the Academy and talk to a host of people who will help them best prepare for the next cycle.

They will be able to ask advice on study skills and revision techniques. There will also be representatives from further and higher education, apprenticeship providers, and others.

They walk in not knowing their results and leave with ideas and assurances about their futures.

It is one of the best nights of the year that aims to support, help and guide our young people.

Parents / guardians should already have received a text message linking to a letter. If they haven’t, please get in touch.

Next Monday, between 4pm and 5pm, is an opportunity for the class of 2021 to pick up their GCSE certificates. We look forward to welcoming them back to the Academy.

It is UK Parliament Week and we are promoting two interesting opportunities in our house assemblies.

A young person is being sought to represent North Lincolnshire and the Humber in the national Youth Parliament and North Lincolnshire is also looking for a Young Mayor, who would also be a member of the North Lincolnshire Youth Council.

All students have been sent a Google form, explaining more about the roles and why it is important for young people to have a voice, represent their community and help make change.

They would work with the police, health services, MP’s and the local council in the roles. Elections will take place in February next year.

They represent yet another opportunity for our young people outside of the normal school day to make a positive difference.

I would encourage those interested to go for it.
